>ATypI Annual Conference
>Leipzig, Germany - 21 to 24 September 2000

It has been confirmed that ATypI¹s annual conference this year
will be held in Leipzig, Germany and will take place between
21 and 24 September, 2000.

Co-chairmen of the conference will be Erik Spiekermann of
MetaDesign, Berlin and Eckehart Schumacher-Gebler of the
Werkstätten und Museum fur Druckkunst in Leipzig (both Board
Members of ATypI) who will create a rich programme of lectures,
demonstrations, workshops and discussions, drawing together
historical aspects of type and typography with the latest
cutting edge activities in type and technology.

Leipzig is a beautiful city, rich in the traditions of books
and publishing and is well supplied with antiquarian booksellers.
It was the home of Bach, Wagner, Mendelssohn, and Goethe and
has some of the finest classical music and opera in Germany.
The atmosphere in the city is relaxed and the people are very
friendly.

The Museum is unique in the richness and diversity of its
collection of European and oriental type matrices, letter
patterns and steel punches. Among the oldest items in the
collection is a font of matrices by the famous punch cutter
Jakob Sabon dating from 1572, as well as an original cutting
of Old Schwabacher which also dates from the middle of the
16th century. Delegates will be given opportunities to actually
work with many of these precious items.
