DDEP00, the successor conference to the EP series of conferences,
will be the eighth International Conference on Digital Documents
and Electronic Publishing. DDEP00 will be held at the Technische
Universitat Munchen, Munich, Germany from September 13-15, 2000.

DDEP00 will be the eighth in a biennial series of international
conferences organised to promote the exchange of novel ideas
concerning the computer production, manipulation and dissemination of
documents. As we approach the new millennium, the use of the Internet
and the World Wide Web continues to expand and the importance of
digital, electronic documents continues to increase significantly.
Organisations continue to rethink the way they use and represent
information, and the use of such documents by the general population
is becoming even more widespread.

DDEP00 will reflect the evolving nature and usage of documents by
treating digital documents and electronic publishing as a broad topic
covering many aspects. These include document models, document
representation and document dissemination, dynamic and hyper-
documents, document analysis and management, and wide-ranging
applications.

Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

Models and representation of digital documents
Digital document engineering: models and tools
Models and tools for multimedia documents
Hyperdocuments: models and novel user interfaces
Integration of document manipulation systems with other
    software tools
  Standards: evaluation and implementation
Active documents: documents as user agents

World-Wide Web and other forms of electronic dissemination:
    techniques, models, and user needs
Business aspects of electronic dissemination: copyright,
economics, intellectual property rights, and security
Management of digital documents
Hypermedia and multimedia: standards, production, editing,
    and visualisation
  Documents, work and workflow management
Document management in the enterprise: information/process
    integration and reengineering implications
Large document collections: digital libraries, organisation
    and distribution
  Distributed and multi-user documents
Analysis of digital documents
  Image recognition
  Indexing and retrieval
  Classification
  Multimedia document analysis
  Document internationalisation
  Structural recognition of documents

Two other conferences will co-locate with DDEP00, namely

PODDP (Principles of Digital Document Processing)
	  http://www.cs.uwm.edu/~podpp00

    and

D-CSCW (the German conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work).
	   http://www.telekooperation.de/conferences/dcscw2000/

Further, since the members of the RIDT (Raster Images Document
Typography) programme committee feel that it is not yet time to
organise a new RIDT conference, DDEP00 will include sessions devoted
to issues concerning digital typography.
