Icograda launches Website on World Graphics Day, 2000 Istanbul, Turkey
27 April 2000

In a special ceremony to mark World Graphics Day 2000, the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) today declared its new website, www.icograda.org, open to the world. Design dignitaries from around the world, in Istanbul for 'Grafist 2000 - Istanbul International Graphic Design Week,' got together at Mimar Sinan University this evening to open Icograda's new website to the world. Representatives of the Turkish Society of Graphic Designers (GMK), Icograda president David Grossman of Israel, past presidents Guy Schockaert of Belgium and Shigeo Fukuda of Japan, and past vice president Sadik Karamustafa of Turkey jointly launched Icograda's new website with a collective "click" of a mouse. Said president David Grossman: "That's one small click for a graphic designer and one great leap for Icograda. For the first time, the worldwide graphic design community will have a common meeting place - to share, to communicate, and to exchange views. Icograda's website will link design organizations and designers around the world." In addition to being a global focal point for the graphic design profession, the new website offers dynamic 'News' and 'Calendar' functions, provides 'Connexions' to the world design community, and provides a 'Library' of online resources. A weekly 'Feature' provides articles from leading design publications, 'Galeria' showcases designers' work from around the world, and a live 'Opinion' poll takes the global pulse on graphic design issues. A special 'Members' area offers professional practice resources and documents to members of Icograda member associations. The Icograda website is available to all visitors right now, at www.icograda.org.

In keeping with the global nature of the Internet, this new Icograda website was designed in Winnipeg, Canada, it uses data gathered in Nagoya, Japan, and is administered by Icograda's Secretariat in Brussels, Belgium.

April 27 is celebrated annually as World Graphics Day around the globe, marking the anniversary of the formation of Icograda in London in 1963. Icograda is the worldwide non-governmental organization for graphic design and visual communication, composed of over 50 member associations in 40 countries, and representing a professional community of more than 100,000 graphic designers. Icograda unifies the voice of graphic and communication designers worldwide and promotes their vital role in commerce and society. Icograda holds consultative status with UNESCO, UNIDO, and the Council of Europe.
